Yesterday after work, I went to a reception on my favorite rooftop in DC: 101 Constitution NW. The view is stunning, and as I stood enjoy a glass of Chardonnay, a miniature crab cake, and the company of a few of my friends, we watched the big, red sun sink into the concrete skyline of NoVA and disappear leaving behind glowing pink and light orange clouds (or, was it smog that looked so lovely?). I made a comment about watching the sun sink into the ocean when I lived in Hawai'i. Ah, Hawai'i. There I was at this fantastic *widely attended* event, and I needed salt water rolling over me. This happens to me often.
I'm pretty good at appreciating everything around me and soaking up whatever moment in which I'm living. But the ocean draws me. Just thinking about the ocean puts some peace in my soul. I went home from the reception and watched a film called 180 degrees South. I curled up on my couch (literally curled- it's a love seat) in my Pipeline tee-shirt, cozied in under my Wyoming blanket, and enjoyed breathtaking scenes of life along the water.
This is DC, and there is a lot going on this weekend, as always. I'm tempted to bow out and head to Assateague Island for the day on Saturday. We'll see.
Aloha nui loa.
